Description
Red-Eared Slider Turtle (trachermys scripta) – Beacon Hill Park, Victoria
Red-eared slider turtles are not indigenous to Canada. They are commonly sold in pet stores, and due to their release by pet owners, they are now found in Beacon Hill Park in Victoria. In the winter, they hibernate in hollow logs or by digging into the mud at the bottom of ponds. During the summer, they enjoy basking in the sun on rocks and logs. They are omnivorous, eating pond algae, aquatic plants, fish and frogs.
