Description
Western Bumble Bee (bombus occidentalis) – Parksville, Vancouver Island
Western bumble bees are excellent pollinators because they collect pollen from a wide variety of flowers. Unlike many bees, they are active in even cold, rainy weather. They nest underground often in old rodent burrows. The bee colony is restarted by a young queen bee in the spring as the rest of the colony dies during the winter months.
