Kermode “Spirit” Bear (ursus americanus kermodei) – River’s Inlet, British Columbia
Commonly known as a Spirit Bear, this is a rare subspecies of the American black bear. It is only found in British Columbia and rarely the Alaska panhandle. Diet consists of fish, a variety of vegetation, insects and mammals. From late fall until early spring, it hibernates in dens dug under rocks and logs, or in hollowed out trees.
